In order to contribute to the development of fishing as the fish season begins every year, the "12th Historical Peninsula Fish Festival" has been organized with the collaboration of Fatih Municipality and KUMDER ("Kumkapı Touristic Restaurants and Salesmen Solidarity Association). The festival organized in Kumkapı Square was attended by Fatih Municipality Mayor Mustafa Demir, Istanbul Deputy Governor İsmail Gültekin, Kumkapı Salesmen Association Chairman Kemal Duranoğlu, Fatih District Head of AK Party Ahmet Hamdi Görk and hundreds of citizens.

Featuring colorful activities, the festival began with the entourage walking with İstanbul Metropolitan Municipality Band from Sultanahmet Square to Kumkapı. Doing shows on the stage established in Kumkapı Square, the Black Sea folk dances team exhilarated the citizens with their rendition of horon dance. Fatih Municipality Mayor Mustafa Demir stood by the grill and offered fish and bread to the citizens. Excited to taste various delicious fish, the citizens made long queues.

Mentioning that the festival has become traditional for Fatih, the Fatih Municipality Mayor Mustafa Demir said, "It has become not just a fish festival but an aquaculture festival. There is beautiful fish food offered by Kumkapı salesmen with their skilled cooks to the guests from fried mussels to fried anchovy, fish paddies to fish börek. It has been a nice festival where beautiful fish products were offered to the guests. We have enough fish to cater to about 30,000 people. The weather is good as well and this year Istanbul is enjoying a nice season in terms of bonito. The one we are now distributing is the bonito from this season."

Throughout the festival which will continue until 25 September, 8,000 mackerels, 4,000 bonitos, 2,500 fried horse mackerels, 3,000 fish böreks, 4,000 fish paddies, 2,000 portions of fried squid, 2,500 portions of fried anchovies and 5,000 fried mussels will be offered to citizens. Tomorrow on the last day of the festival, an angling competition will be organized on Galata Bridge.
