Demir, Mayor of Fatih attended the World Tourism Forum and gave a speech.
Mustafa Demir, Mayor of Fatih, who attended the third World Tourism Forum held, mentioned the projects they have planned for the district and said "We think that the social and cultural dimension of tourism are very high and important although it is at the forefront with its supports to economy."
The World Tourism Forum where the leaders who guide the world tourism come together has started in Istanbul. The forum, which will be held in Istanbul Congress Center and will continue until Friday, will take place with many domestic and foreign participants. Demir, Mayor of Fatih, who attended the World Tourism Forum, gave a speech there. Mayor Demir said “We think that the social and cultural dimensions of tourism are very high and important although it is at the forefront with its supports to economy. It is very important in terms of peace and recognizing the culture, that does not belong to itself and is the need of our country and all the world, understanding it, accepting it with its values and contributing to its assimilation.”
In his speech, Mayor Demir mentioned the importance and features of Fatih district in terms of tourism and said that Fatih is the transit route of civilizations. When we look more closely, it is the only place where the Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman civilizations were shaped in the past and the most important works are intensely found. It is a place which is surrounded on three sides by the sea and with land walls on one side, with a population over 2 million during the day and a population of 450,000 at night.”
Stating that the district has assumed a locomotive duty in terms of tourism in İstanbul, Mayor Demir said “When we look at specifically, it is a district that assumes the locomotive role of Istanbul, which is the locomotive of the Turkish economy, when it comes to tourism especially cultural tourism.”
In his speech, Mayor Demir mentioned terrorist incidents and stated that they and all the countries of the world have been influenced by them, and said that, “When we look back, for example, France has been highly influenced. We can easily see that there has been an economic recession by almost 5 percent to 6 percent in these last attacks in Paris and Nice”.
Mayor Demir completed his speech with the presentation about the projects they have carried out for Fatih District and the place of district in tourism.
