International Percussion Festival was organized at Sulukule Art Academy

The second ‘Istanbul International Percussion Festival’ was organized at Fatih Municipality Sulukule Art Academy. The Percussion Competition organized in the scope of the festival gathered great attention.

A record number of 125 contestants applied online and competed at the Percussion Competition.

Percussionist Engin Gürkey was organizer and art director of the competition which was participated by local and international members of the jury and trainers in addition to contestants from all over the world. This year Jury Foreman was David Friedman (USA), while jury members were Daniella Ganeva (Britain) Royal College of Music, Jeremy Friedman (USA), Pavel Stepanov (Russia), Can Kıyıcı – Presidential Symphony Orchestra (P.S.O.) (Turkey), Oğuzhan Oğuz – Trakya University State Conservatory (T.U.S.C.) (Turkey), and Utku Ünal – İstanbul Bilgi University Department of Music B.U.D.M (Turkey).

Performances of contestants in Turkish, Latin American, African Percussion Solo Performance, Child and Adult Percussions, Classical Percussion Solo Performance, Child and Adult Drums Solo Performance and Child and Adult Turkish, Latin American, African Percussion Performance categories were quite close.  

Winner contestants and those who received special recognition of the jury were awarded with instruments, plaques, and certificates while second and third prize were certificates.  

Also, throughout the festival music lovers found the chance to receive Certified Master Classes from jury member trainers.
