Ali Efendi Fountain Regains its Water

The fountain, also known as Tavanlı, is located at the corner of Tavanlı Çeşme Street and Mehmet Paşa Camii Street in Hoca Gıyasettin Quarter. It is known that it was built in 1813 by Ruznâmeci Ali Efendi. The structure built on the southern façade of the fountain is thought to be a tomb of Ali Efendi. The fountain has a reservoir and has a square plan. The ornamental slab and the inscription of the fountain are made of marble and enclosed in a round arch on the front façade. Cleaning and plastics repairs have been carried out in line with the project approved by the Board. In addition, the cement plasters on the reservoir and façade surfaces have been removed and re-plastered with the original material. The fountain has been restored to water.
