Another Award to Fatih Municipality from the Prime Minister

Municipality of the firsts, Fatih Municipality that has the highest citizen satisfaction in Turkey at large received another award. Fatih Municipality was awarded the winning award at E-Municipality Area at Local Government Projects Contest organized by Ak Party ((The Justice and Development Party) Istanbul Provincial Headquarters.

Fatih Municipality was given the First Prize at Local Governments Projects Contest in “Management Section e-municipality” area organized by AK Party Istanbul Provincial Headquarters. Fatih Mayor received the award from Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan himself.

This is the second award Fatih Municipality received from the Prime Minister the first one being with Fener Balat Rehabilitation Program.

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan that participated in opening of the 1st International Local Governments Symposium organized by AK Party Istanbul Provincial Headquarters said that Istanbul is at the meeting point of the continents and was happy to host foreign guests at this point. Erdoğan noted that this symposium would reinforce relations and added that: “Because we believe that differences make wealth”. Erdoğan continued by saying:

“As a person who was born and raised and served as the mayor of this city, I would like to note that I use the experience I gained here in every area of my life. We have to know that everything starts at the local and carry this to international standards. We can cooperate at cultural, technological, infrastructure services between cities. But now cooperation in security became an obligation. The attack that was conducted to New York earlier can then be conducted in Madrid or in Istanbul. Thus such symposia and meetings that can initiate and reinforce cooperation are very important.”

Second award from the Prime Minister himself

Following his speech, Erdoğan gave awards to winners of Local Government Projects Contest. Fatih Municipality was awarded the first prize in Management Section E-Municipality area thanks to its technology investments especially in Geographical Information System, Mobile signature and e-signature. Fatih Mayor received the first prize from Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan himself.

In his speech following the award ceremony Fatih Mayor said they were endeavoring to ensure citizens can access services easily and added that: “We have been working to create infrastructure of e-municipality services for three years. We aim to use technology in the best way possible and bring services faster and more effectively to citizens. We are very pleased that our efforts were found worthy of award. But what pleased me more is to receive this award from our Prime Minister Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan himself.”

Fatih Municipality received an award earlier with Fener Balat Rehabilitation Program. In the ceremony in 2006 the mayor again received the award from Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan himself.

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan also gave awards to other municipalities that were awarded.

In the contest that Fatih Municipality was awarded the first prize, Üsküdar Municipality was awarded the second and Bayrampaşa Municipality was awarded the third prize in management while Tuzla Municipality was awarded the first, Bağcılar Municipality was awarded the second and Gaziosmanpaşa Municipality was awarded the third prize in environment protection area.

In social, economic, and cultural development area Sultanbeyli Municipality was awarded the first, Zeytinburnu Municipality was awarded the second and Güngören Municipality was awarded the third prize. Individual participants to the contest were also awarded by Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

AK Party Deputy Chairman Hüseyin Tanrıverdi said that the main dynamic of the new millennia is local 'governments and that many legal changes were made in the area of local governments providing legal possibility to modern management principles.

İstanbul Metropolitan Mayor Kadir Topbaş drew attention to the importance of urban diplomacy underlining effective roles plated by local governments in urbanization, democratization, and globalization processes.

AK Party Istanbul Provincial Chairman Aziz Babuşçu said 70 percent of all world people live in cities and pointed at increasing significance of local governments worldwide.
