Caferağa Sıbyan Mektebi (Primary School) Restored
Fatih Municipality aims to revive the Caferağa Primary School (Kaşıkçı Mustafa Efendi School), one of the important works of our cultural heritage, and hand it down to future generations.
8 July 2024Located on Kaşıkçı Mektebi Street in Şehremini Neighbourhood, the school, which has become unusable over time, has no remains today. According to historical records, it is known that the school made of masonry had a large classroom, an instructor's room and a small garden.
The survey, restitution and reconstruction plans prepared by the Directorate of Cultural Heritage Protection under Fatih Municipality were approved by the Conservation Board in 2023. As a result of the excavations carried out under the supervision of the Museum of Turkish and Islamic Arts, the implementation process was initiated in line with the approved plans & drawings.
It is planned that the works will be completed by the end of 2024 and the school will be put into service of the citizens. The masonry stone wall construction continues in the school, whose foundation works have been completed so far. Fatih Municipality aims to protect our cultural heritage with the renovation of this historical building.
