Camcılar Mosque Restored

Camcılar Masjid was built in 1494 by Sheikh Hüseyin Bin Sheikh Hasan, one of the four division aghas of the army, entitled Gureba-i Yemin Agha. While the first name of the work was Garip Yiğitler Ağası Masjid, it was later changed to Camcılar Masjid. It is also known as Guraba Hüseyin Ağa Masjid. It was Osman Efendi who placed the minbar in the masjid and the building was thus transformed into a mosque. In 1783, it burnt down in the Aksaray fire and was rebuilt in the same year. In 1831, the mosque burnt down again and its foundation was annexed to the administration of Ministry of Foundations in order to rebuild it and to cover the necessary expenses. It was devastated in the earthquake of 1894 and was rebuilt by Hacı Mustafa Ağa in the same year in the architectural style of the period, with two storeys, masonry walls and a wooden roof. The mosque, which had been deserted to ruins since 1948, was removed in 1957 under the pretext of road widening works. The works for the restoration of the Camcılar Mosque were initiated by philanthropists. In 2022, the mosque was damaged due to a fire that occurred while the works were in progress. The mosque was restored once again thanks to the restoration works.
