Halil Çevgan Fountain Restored
In the restoration of Halil Çevgan Fountain in Nişanca Neighbourhood, the marble mirror stone and sitting benches were remanufactured, the inscription was cleaned and engraved with gold foil.
13 November 2024Located at the intersection of Nişanca Hamamı Street and Molataşı Street, behind Nişanca Hamamı, the fountain was built by Halil Çevgan in 1591 using cut stone. The work, which bears the characteristics of the classical period, has a pentagonal plan and a pyramidal top cover. There are fountain niches with pointed arches on three sides of the building, while there is a four-line inscription in the niche on the central axis, a marble mirror stone and a pointed arched bowl socket on both sides.
Within the scope of the restoration works, the original stones on the upper cover and facades were preserved and cleaned; the stones that had lost their integrity were renewed. Joint repair and integration works were carried out in necessary areas. The marble mirror stone and sitting benches, which could not survive to the present day, were reconstructed; the original inscription was cleaned, coloured and gold foil work was performed. The landscaping and installation works of the fountain were completed and it was restored and reintroduced to water.
