Haraççı Fountain Regains Its Water
Haraççı Fountain has been restored following the completion of repair works.
4 December 2023Haraççı Fountain is located in Cibali Quarter, on Üsküplü Street, next to the Haraççı Kara Mehmed Mosque, which is thought to have been built before this date from its foundation dated 1475. Since the inscription of the fountain, which takes its name from this mosque, has not survived to the present day, there is no clear information about the date of construction and its benefactor. The square-planned fountain is equipped with a reservoir and there is a cemetery on its left side. The fountain is covered with cut stones from the ground level to the middle level, and brick masonry from the middle level to the roof level. The ornamental slab and the fountain basin are made of marble.
The deteriorated façade of the Haraççı Fountain has been repaired and its upper lintel and missing saddle stones have been crafted from marble. The herbaceous and woody plants on the upper cover of the fountain have been cleaned, and it has been covered with Turkish style tiles in accordance with the project. In addition, the cemetery of the mosque located next to the fountain has also been repaired within the scope of the works and the fountain has regained with water after the repairs.
