Hatice Turhan Valide Sultan Sebil and Fountain Takes Its Place among the Restored Fountains

Fatih Municipality's efforts to protect, preserve and pass on historical fountains to future generations continue relentlessly.

Hatice Turhan Valide Sultan Sebil and Fountain is located in Hobyar Quarter, at the corner of Şeyhülislam Hayri Efendi Street and Bankacılar Street. Its construction was commissioned by Hatice Turhan Valide Sultan in 1663-64. The sebil and the fountain are side by side under a broad eave. The fountain is covered with marble in classical style. There are relief decorations inside the pointed arch and in the corner spaces and an inscription on it. A wide cornice with muqarnas runs around the fountain under the eave. Cleaning and preventive protection works have been carried out on the fountain which is still in use today.
