Kapi Agha İbrahim Aga Fountain Restored
Within the scope of the restoration works of the Kapi Agha (Chief White Eunuch) İbrahim Agha Fountain in Seyyid Ömer Neighbourhood, cement-based modifications were removed and the joints were renewed, the upper cover was enclosed with a stone-covered roof and the fountain was uncovered by excavation work.
1 July 2024The fountain is located on Mecitbey Street. The fountain was built in 1745 by Ibrahim Agha, the Kapi Agha (Chief White Eunuch) of Sultan Mahmut I, and has a rectangular plan with a reservoir. The mirror stone on the marble-covered façade of the fountain is positioned in a niche decorated with still life motifs and adorned with floral motifs. There is a two-column, two-line inscription in the niche and a second inscription on the mirror stone that reads "Ve sekâhum rabbuhum şarâben tahûrâ".
Within the scope of the restoration works, the cement-based unqualified modifications on the facades of the fountain were removed, the joints were renewed, plastic repair and reinforcement works such as cleaning and completion were carried out. The upper cover was overlaid with a stone-covered gable roof, and the fountain, which was at the road elevation, was uncovered by excavation work. Ground colouring and gold foil work was performed on the inscription on the front façade of the fountain and the fountain was restored and reintroduced to water.
