Fatih Municipality was given an award on ‘Geographical Information Systems in Local Governments’ based on its works concerning information systems. Fatih Mayor received the award from Minister of Environment and Urbanization, Mehmet Özhaseki at the award ceremony organized at Haliç Congress Center.

Fatih Municipality was awarded on ‘Geographical Information Systems in Local Governments’ based on its investments on information systems. Fatih Mayor participated in ‘Global Geographical Information Systems Day’ event organized at Haliç Congress Center and received the award from Minister of Environment and Urbanization, Mehmet Özhaseki. Following the award ceremony Minister Özhaseki visited Fatih Municipality stand and received information from the Mayor on activities regarding Geographical Information Systems.

“One of the projects that can be used for the benefit of the country”

Fatih Mayor said that the award is very meaningful for them and said: “The award we received today was for successful application of geographical information system on local governments. Geographical information system and a significant application that we have been working on for about 10 years, that we develop models special to ourselves but at the same time can work online with other public institutions and organizations. The main reason of our success when compared with others is that the project was prepared by us. We use open source code and all codes belong to Fatih Municipality. When considered from this angle, this is one of the projects that could be used for the benefit of citizens when time and venue data is brought together with information and communication technology. This is an indispensable project of a local government to improve service quality, taking fast decisions and in terms of execution, transparency, questionability, sharing and updating information which is not very visible and not detected easily by people we have to serve. In this context we are very pleased that Fatih Municipality was awarded as the best user of geographical information system among about one thousand municipalities in Turkey.”
