Nuruosmaniye Fountain Restored Its Glory Following Restoration Works!
The historic fountain at Molla Fenari Neighborhood was constructed during the reign of Osman the 3rd, between 1755 and 1756. As a result of the restoration works undertaken by the Fatih Municipality Directorate of Cultural Heritage, the fountain restored its former glory.
23 July 2023Situated right next to the courtyard gate of Nuruosmaniye Mosque that opens to the Grand Bazaar and also known as the Osman the 3rd Fountain, the fountain carries architectural and ornamental elements of the baroque style. Capturing attention with its facade covered with marbles and the columns that decorate its surrounding, the domed and eaved roof of the fountain impresses its viewers. The fountain was in a very poor shape due to the fatigue of ages and natural causes. Before the start of the restoration, specialists first analyzed the current situation and made preparations for works. Special mechanical methods were employed for surface cleaning and damaged pieces were meticulously repaired. The restoration team brought back ten suitable color textures suitable to the original fountain and applied gilding carefully to make epitaph visible again. In addition, the fitting of the fountain was repaired in line with modern standards and reunited with water.
