Restoration Works at Nalıncı Mehmet Mimi Dede Tomb are Completed
Nalıncı Mehmet Mimi Dede Tomb regained its former glory thanks to restoration works. Static problems were resolved and the fountain in front of the tomb was repaired.
9 May 2024It is known that Nalıncı Mehmet Mimi Dede was born during the reign of Sultan Murad the 3rd. It is thought that he came to Istanbul from Bergama and worked as a clog maker across Azaplar (Azebler) Mosque and lived until 1592 while rumor has it that his mortal remains were cleaned and buried by the sultan and the chief mufti.
The tomb has a square plan and is covered with a high drum dome. Affected from fire and earthquakes during the Ottoman period, the tomb is repaired with its static problems resolved. There is a three-line epitaph on the window by the street. The fountain in front of the tomb was also restored and opened to visit of the public.
