Seyyid Ali Fountain Regained Water
In the restoration of the Seyyid Ali Fountain in Atikali District, the original marble mirror stone and basin were cleaned and repaired while the missing benches were rebuilt in accordance with the original.
29 August 2024The Fountain is located at Beyceğiz Fırını Street, next to burial area of Şeyh Hamza Lodge. It was built in 1702 by Seyyid Ali Effendi using face stone, with a pointed arch. There is a four-line epigraph on the pointed arch of the wall fountain.
During the restoration the part that remained below the level of road was unearthed with a careful excavation. Stones were numbered and removed and relocated to escalate the fountain to road level. Integration and joint repairs were carried out on the façades. The fountain’s original marble mirror stone and basin were cleaned and repaired using mechanical and chemical methods and the benches that did not survive to our day were remanufactured in accordance with the original. After completion of plumbing works, the fountain regained water.
