Yusuf Efendi Fountain Restored within the Scope of the Restoration Works of the Fatih Municipality

The fountain was built by Yusuf Efendi of Arapkirli in 1757-58 and its front facade is completely covered with marble. There is a rectangular reservoir at the back of the fountain. Inspired by the early baroque-rococo style, the fountain's facade is divided into three parts with four columns. In the upper part of the arched central section that forms the main line, there is an eighteen-line inscription written by the poet Raif, and on both sides there are surfaces decorated with seashell depictions and sitting benches in a niche in the lower section. Within the scope of the restoration works, the demolished reservoir cover was repaired promptly. The reservoir section, which was full of rubble and garbage, was cleaned and the upper cover was reconstructed. Contamination and vegetation on the marble surfaces of the fountain were cleaned with appropriate methods. Necessary conservation works were carried out on the cracks in the marble facade and the inscription of the fountain, which was worn out over time, and the inscription was re-leafed after the conservation process.
