Sümeyye Meryem ARSLAN
Director of Protection of Cultural Heritage
Completed her secondary school education at Ankara Tevfik İleri Anadolu İmam Hatip High School.
Studied Restoration Education at Yıldız Teknik University following which graduated from Kocaeli University Department of Interior Architecture in second place.
Continues her master’s thesis at Fatih Sultan Mehmet Foundation University Department of Architectural Design on “Preparing Projects of Historic Cemeteries”.
Worked actively in the private sector at various periods on preparing and executing projects of many important historic monuments including the Hagia Sophia Grand Mosque (Ayasofya-i Kebir Cami-i Şerifi). Served as executive architect in preparation and execution of projects on wooden civilian structures at IMM (Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality) KUDEB Project Group she started to work in 2007. Starting from 2011, she performed as site manager at IMM KUDEB Stone Training Workshop. At the same time she consulted replication project of Ottoman Architectural Structures at The Little World Museum of Man in Japan.
Between 2015 and 2020, she executed Inventory Activity of Istanbul’s Tombs, Sufi Burial Areas, Cemeteries, and Sepulchers as technical affairs department manager of IMM Directorate of Protection of Cultural Heritage.
Later started working as an architect at Directorate of Planning and Projects of Fatih Municipality. Since August, she has been serving as Director of Protection of Cultural Heritage at Fatih Municipality.
Arslan was born in Isparta. She is married with two children.
